Hi all....shoutout to anybody who knows anything about car audio.

I’ve been thinking of ordering a replacement single-DIN head unit for my car that has Bluetooth functionality so I can start using my phone while driving with handsfree when need be rather than having to pull over. As my side gig is doing computer repair on the weekend and evenings when I am not teaching , I often get calls while I am driving where I have to listen to people talk about their issues and it wastes a lot of time when I have to pull over for 10 minutes to talk to them on my way to or from other gigs.

I’m curious if anybody has any recommendations? Cheaper is better and I don’t mind installing it myself at all, but if an adapter kit is available for my car (2009 Hyundai Accent hatchback) to make things like speakers more plug and play and easier for me to get working, that would be helpful.

The car just has the factory speakers in the front and similiar-to-factory replacement speakers in the rear that I had installed last year when the OEM ones blew out.

Anybody have any suggestions for a cheap, reputable BT-capable single-DIN unit? I don’t care about options. CD capable would be nice as I still have a few kicking around I use once and awhile. Aux. input would be a requirement too.

Cheers! :)

You look at crutchfield yet? They are my go to for car audio.

I swapped my double DIN Ford head unit for a Sony using the kit from Crutchfield and it was pretty straightforward. I soldered the adapter wires instead of using their crimp connectors but otherwise it went as per the instructions.

Ditto. While I may not actually -buy- from Crutchfield, they have a product selector for every kind of car that specifies what components you need for your particular install.  It tells you what fits.  Then you can go to Ebay or Amazon and buy what you need on the cheap. There’s Ebay and Amazon sellers that have this stuff dirt cheap.

I’d checked them a long time ago, but haven’t in awhile, will have to see what they have!

Yup...good idea. No Best Buys local to me, but I tossed a message to our local independent car audio shop and I’ll have to stop into CanTire next time I am in town to see if they have anything that would work.

Honestly most modern aftermarket radios are pretty much all the same internally, not gonna be a huge difference between an alpine, a pioneer or a boss in the same price range. Crutchfield would be the best place to shop if you need everything like a wiring kit or a installation kit. If not I’d just shop local, even walmart will have something that’ll you’ll be happy with.

Frys.com has some decent deals from time to time. For brand, i would favor pioneer/premier or jbl.

My strong advice, get a bigger alternator, a second battery, a power cap and an mtx jackhammer 22 and just ignore the ringing. Phone calls or tinnitus eventually your brain filters it out.

Crutchfield may be an option....just looked and there is a JVC head unit there that would meet my needs....

Others have mentioned Crutchfield, so I’ll just add some information to that recommendation. L ast time I bought through them they used to include the installation harness and dash kit for free, seems like it’s now free, or up to $50 off because so many kits replace half the dashboard and require replacing HVAC controls, etc.. . If yours is a simple single-DIN slot then it’s likely still cheap enough to be free. They also include vehicle specific instructions to do it yourself. It’s really the best way to go.

When I looked up a stereo it was telling me that the things I needed to install it were an additional charge I believe...?

That’s odd, when I plug in ‘09 Accent h atch even the cheapest head unit shows free installation gear. Are you in the US?
